Park History

Oaklands Park sits in approximately three and half acres near the small Hamlet of Barns Green, West Sussex. This idyllic spot is surrounded by oak trees and open fields, perfect for retired or semi-retired couples who are looking for a secure and friendly community to live in.

The land was originally of agricultural use and during the Second World War the fields were used as a Canadian air base. Installation of temporary roads and infrastructure in this period meant the land could not be returned to agricultural use so it lay unused for many years.

A series of temporary planning permissions were granted from 1951 onwards for seasonal touring caravans to the then owner, Miss K Ford a local herb grower. From the outset of the park there were full time, year-round residents on site alongside the seasonal caravans.

In 1972 the site changed ownership to Mr and Mrs NJ Morris of Roundstone Caravan Park, Southwater. The mixture of seasonal and year-round use was well-established by then and the park's infrastructure was updated to reflect this and to comply with the site licensing regime.

In 1996 The Park changed ownership to Mr and Mrs Doe who were the largest static Caravan suppliers in the south of England. Branching out in the park home industry, planning applications were made to change the park from static caravans to park homes.

An eight month license was granted in 2006 which was extended to eleven months. A full residential license was never achieved as they both fell into ill health.

In 2014 Daniel and Tina Marie Wenman, the son and daughter-in-law of Mr & Mrs Doe, inherited the park. Full residential use was granted in 2015 marking the beginning of the exclusive development that is in existence today.

We are sure that Mr & Mrs Doe would be proud of the changes and improvements that have been made to deliver the Park they had envisaged all those year ago.
