Park History

Oaklands Park sits in approximately three and half acres set in the hamlet of West Sussex Surrounded by oak trees and open fields. The land was originally in agricultural use and during the second world war the fields were used as a Canadian air base with made up roads and infrastructure which rendered the land unusable for its previous agricultural use after the war.

Accordingly a series of temporary planning permissions were granted from 1951 onwards for seasonal touring caravans to the then owner, Miss K Ford (profession: herb grower). From the beginning there were full time, year-round residents on site alongside the seasonal caravans.

In 1972 when the site changed ownership to Mr and Mrs NJ Morris of Roundstone Caravan Park, Southwater, the mixture of seasonal and year-round use was well-established and the park's infrastructure was updated to reflect this, in order to comply with the site licensing regime.

In 1996 the park changed ownership to Mr and Mrs Doe who were the largest static Caravan sales in the south of England and were branching out in the park home industry. Planning applications were made to change the park from static caravans to park homes but were never granted. In 2006 an eight months licence was granted to an eleven month licence. Residential use was never achieved as they both fell into ill health.

In 2014 Daniel and Tina Wenman, the daughter and son-in-law of Mr & Mrs Doe inherited the park and achieved to get residential use in 2015 making Oaklands Park the exclusive development it is today. Mr & Mrs Doe would be very proud of this achievement.
